How the Chicago Bears' Loss to the Vikings Killed Their Momentum

Today, the Chicago Bears suffered a heartbreaking 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears had no control over the momentum during the game, and the momentum they had built throughout the season is now in limbo
The Bears took penalties at key points in the game, putting themselves in difficult situations. The majority of the penalties the Bears received were pre-snap penalties, including illegal shifts and false starts.
With six minutes left in the game, before the blocked field goal, Caleb Williams left the field, favoring his left leg. Currently, the severity of Caleb Williams ' hamstring injury is unknown.
The Bears' Penalties Changed the Momentum
The Bears started to rack up penalties toward the end of the first half on the second-to-last drive. After converting on fourth-and-3, when the momentum seemed to be on Chicago's side, the Bears got a penalty on the next play for an illegal shift.
But that is not all from this drive.
The very next play the Bears received another penalty for holding. Combined, those two penalties put the Bears in a second-and-25 situation.
On top of those two penalties, the Bears received a penalty for intentional grounding, putting them in a second-and-35 situation. On the next play, they were able to gain some yards without a penalty, setting up third-and-23."
But on the next play, the Bears were called for a false start, putting them in a third-and-28 situation and eventually forcing them to punt."
In an article that I wrote last week, I talked about how the Bears' self-inflicted wounds are what kept the Panthers in the game against them. In the game against the Vikings, the fear of what could happen if the penalties did not get cleaned up came to fruition.
Caleb Williams' Injury Creates Uncertainty
With six minutes left in the game, Caleb Williams was forced to run with the ball on first-and-goal. He went down and was writhing in pain and had to be helped to the sideline. As he was going to the sideline, he was seen favoring his left leg.
Tyson Bagent came into the game and was able to lead the offense on the final drive to the goal line. The Vikings' defense was able to sack him with zero seconds left.
Right now, the main concern is Caleb Williams' health. It looked like he was going to be set to have an MVP-caliber season.
The Chicago Bears have had injury concerns throughout the preseason, but this injury is different. The timing, the possible severity, and the person who was injured create such uncertainty.
Caleb could be back in a couple of weeks or not back for the remainder of the season. The Bears would have to rely on their backup quarterback. Luckily, they have Bagent, who is very familiar with Ben Johnson's offense.
The question now is whether or not the Bears will be able to turn the momentum around to work for them. Or will this be the beginning of the end of a potentially historic season?
What this Means for the Chicago Bears
The events of this game could have an impact on the remainder of the season. From the penalties to Caleb's injury, there is a lot that is not going in the Bears' favor.
If the Bears are able to keep the penalties to a minimum and Bagent can run the offense effectively, the momentum can change.
The penalties are something that can be fixed. The quarterback situation is a little more complicated than that, but it could be worse.
Hopefully, the Bears are able to fix the penalties, and Bagent fits in well enough with the offense consistently that it will be like Caleb is still on the field.
