Recap of Events Prior to the First Public Practice

This week of training camp for the Chicago Bears has had it's ups and downs. It started off with Caleb Williams going 5/12 on day one. But Williams bounced back with only 4 incompletions on day 2, with one of those passes being batted down by Coby Bryant. And on day 3, Colston Loveland was dominating, all the left tackles (Kiran, Jedrick, Braxton, and Theo) got reps with the 1's.

Something else from day 3 that needs to be noted are that Dexter, Sweat, and Booker would've reported sacks if pads were on. Salvon Ahmed got some reps at running back on day 3 due to Kyle Monangai not being present at practice. All of this was very reassuring heading into the first public practice for the Chicago Bears.

Public Practice Recap

Like clockwork, Colston Loveland had another great day at training camp, with three touchdowns, including two that were thrown to him in red zone drills. It was also noted that he had a diving catch downfield in elite coverage from a defender. He has been lighting it up at camp consistently this training camp.

Loveland could very well be the number one target for Williams this year if he keeps this up. These two could be the next Mahomes/Kelce combo, which isn't too far fetched since Caleb Williams was deemed as the possible next Patrick Mahomes of the league leading into the year of his draft.

Speaking of elite targets for Caleb to throw to, the loudest cheers at camp came after Rome Odunze made a high-reaching catch over the middle. Like I said in my article talking about Three Standout Storylines that will Define Chicago Bears Training Camp, we were likely going to see Odunze shine into the number one receiver spot. Jahdae Walker also made some noise this practice with a diving catch from backup quarterback Tyson Bagent.

There was also a mysterious no show at practice today, Kyle Monangai. This season it was supposed to be Monangai and Swift to split touches in the backfield. But, with Monangai not showing up to practice and the reason being unclear, it is a cause for concern for the Bears offense, as they are not well equipped to replace him.

The Public Reacts

On Twitter/X, there were various reactions to the first public practice for the Chicago Bears, most of which were positive. That positivity was primarily around the offense, which makes sense as there was a lot of great production from the offense today.

However, there were some concerns on the defensive side for the Bears. The defense is operating without T.J. Edwards and Kyler Gordon during the training camp, which hurts for the defense as neither of these players are getting reps at camp.

The public also noticed Monangai's absence from the field today. There was not too much concern from fans on Twitter, yet, and the concerns will either increase as the silence on his absence goes unanswered, or if information comes out confirming the injury. There is also the chance that concerns go away if information comes out saying that Monangai is not injured.
